The Doctor Dick was developed by Vic Marchiel for fishing in the Indian River at the end of Indian Arm in North Vancouver. I found this pattern in Art Lingren’s book, “Contemporary Fly Patterns of British Columbia.” He says, “After ensuring the pattern is well established in the lie, it should be retrieved with a quick jerky motion. The results can be remarkable! It has also accounted for rainbows in excess of 4 pounds. The pattern was named after Dr. Richard (Dick) Lupton who caught his first-ever salmon on this fly at the Indian in 2001.”
