Friday Night Flies – Alexandria “Lady of the lake”
Friday Night Flies – Alexandria “Lady of the lake”
The Alexandria originated in Scotland way back in the 1860’s and is also known as the “Lady of the lake.” This classic fly has produced for years in lakes and even rivers for any species that it has been thrown at. It was even banned in the UK at one point because it is such a productive fly. I can see this pattern being a great salmon fry imitation and I will be fishing it hard this spring for Cutthroat trout in my local rivers. I also can’t wait to use it in lakes for Rainbow trout this spring and summer. It has a look to it that should also imitate a variety of insects in many stillwaters. Play around with the hook that you tie this patten on. I have tied the Alexandria on a variety of nymph and salmon hooks. This fly really lends itself well to just about any hook.
